January 10, 2025
On December 10, 2024, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Group received certification from the Science Based Targets (SBT) initiative*1 for our greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets, including Net Zero. The SBT initiative found these targets to be in line with the goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
The GHG emission reduction targets certified for the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Group are as follows.
[Near-Term Targets]
Scope 1 + 2*2: | Reduce absolute emissions by 50.4% by FY2030 (vs. FY2018) |
Scope 3*3: | Reduce absolute emissions by 30% by FY2030 (vs. FY2018) |
Scope 3 FLAG*4: | Reduce absolute emissions by 36.4% by FY2030 (vs. FY2018) |
No deforestation: | Commit to no deforestation across primary deforestation-linked commodities by the end of 2025. |
[Long-Term Targets]
Scope 1+2+3: | Reduce absolute emissions by 90% by FY2050 (vs. FY2018) |
Scope 3 FLAG: | Reduce absolute emissions by 72% by FY2050 (vs. FY2018) |
Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵbusiness is built on a healthy global environment and rich ecosystems. To remain an integral part of society, we must engage in business activities that facilitate the transition to a nature-positive, low-carbon, and resource-efficient society. The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Group will continue contributing to global sustainability by assessing environmental impacts across the entire lifecycle and implementing initiatives to reduce such impacts.
*1 The Science Based Targets initiative promotes science-based target setting as a powerful way of boosting companies’ competitive advantage in the transition to the low-carbon economy. This initiative is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), World Resources Institute (WRI), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and one of the We Mean Business Coalition commitments.
*2 Scope 1: Direct greenhouse effect gas emissions from sources owned or controlled by the organization (fuel combustion, industrial processes, vehicle use, etc.)
Scope 2: Indirect emissions from the generation of purchased electricity, heat, or steam consumed by the organization.
*3 Scope 3: Other indirect emissions (product use and disposal, transportation, employee commuting and business travel, investment, etc.)
*4 FLAG: Forest, Land, and Agriculture emissions are a category of greenhouse gas emissions that encompass the many ways land use change and land-related activities impact the climate.
